- I have this compiler. First of all you need Windows'95 or Windows NT. You
- also need a CD-ROM drive,(which I trust you have one). It is great for
- Windows '95 programming because it's designed for it! Instead of the
- usual Visual Workbench, it uses what is called the Developer Studio. If
- you have ever had a Microsoft Visual C++ compiler before, you might
- remember Books Online. Version 4.0 Uses Books Online entirely as its help
- file, and combines the other help files that weren't in Books Online
- previously, with new topics that concern Version 4.0. It also shows
- graphically, you classes, and files your program uses. It does not use
- QuickWin programs, and therefore you're better off making projects with
- it. At installation, you have the option of viewing videos, concearning
- all the new features of version 4.0, under "What's so cool about Visual
- C++ 4.0 anyway?" Also, if you're interested in making installation
- programs or demo programs, it has that too with InstalSHIELD. and
- DemoSHIELD (Shareware editions). InstallSHIELD apparently only works for
- Windows NT. DemoSHIELD is hard to find when you install it, and only
- let's you save a 5 screen program. But it is fun to fool around with. :)
- I made a short UMK3 demo with it. Also, version 4.0 supports ALL TYPES of
- multimedia programming. This includes LaserDisc controls, CD Controls,
- MIDI playing & recording, WAV playing & recording. How to use them and
- what they are can be found in the help files. So if you're seriously
- considering publishing Windows '95 or NT programs, version 4.0 is great!
- It can teach you anything you need to know. (Also Version 4.0 also comes
- with another CD of Visual C++ version 1.52c profressional, incase you want
- to make 16-bit programs or QuickWin Programs.)
